BA Merge Slides
What it does...
The BA Merge Slides tool is published as an INTERNAL application, and therefore can only be used by volunteers who have @braverangels.org Google Workspace accounts.
The purpose of this tool is to permit maintainers of our workshop slides to save time when creating "variants" of a given workshop by creating a new Google Slides file that is the merge of a (mostly blank) CHILD deck with a PARENT deck.
This Add-on can be installed from the button below (again, provided you are logged into a braverangels.org Google Workspace account)
How it works...
From the Extensions menu, open the "BA Merge Slides" Add-on from within the CHILD deck, or the deck that contains completely blank slides as placeholders for all content you want to merge from the PARENT deck.
Note that the PARENT and CHILD decks must contain the same number of slides, and that any CHILD deck slides that are being used as placeholders must be COMPLETELY blank (e.g. no empty text boxes).
How it works if being run from within the child slide deck in a known WORKSHOP VARIANT working folder.
Once you select "Merge" the tool will automatically identify the workshop associated with the variant working folder that contains the child slide deck, and ask you to confirm that you are running things for the correct workshop.
Once you click OK, you'll see a dialog with a spinner at the bottom of your slide deck as the tool produces a new merged deck in the correct folder. This may take several minutes depending on the size and complexity of the slide deck.
Once the process is complete, you'll get a dialog with a link to your new merged deck. This deck should be automatically located in the correct merged slide deck folder for the workshop variant you are working on.
How it works if being run from within a generic child slide deck, e.g. a slide deck not contained within a known WORKSHOP VARIANT working folder.
Note that this user flow should appear only if you are working OUTSIDE the official dev team process, and generally should not be used unless you have a good reason to use it.
First, you'll get a dialog asking you to confirm that you want to run the tool outside the normal dev team process. Click "OK" if you want to proceed.
Next, you'll be guided through the process of providing the parent slide deck URL, the destination folder URL, and then you'll receive a prompt telling you the location of the newly-created deck.
